Born in Australia, Cameron Roberts is recognised as a pianist of great distinction and originality. His recent CD recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and original transcriptions is praised as ‘thought-provoking… a disc of rare and valuable insight’, and has been used in the film Lucky Miles (2007, Australia). His performing repertoire includes the monumental Iberia by Albeniz, The 24 Preludes by Rachmaninoff, and original solo piano arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.3. Roberts studied both medicine and music at The University of Melbourne, before advancing his studies in performing at the Australian National Academy, and further with Alexei Nasedkin at the Moscow Conservatory and Tatiana Sarkissova at the Royal Academy, London. In his home country he won first prizes in The Mozart Concerto Competition (Melbourne, 1997), The Grainger Competition (1998), and was finalist in the National Piano Award (2004). He has performed as soloist in London, York, Gante, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne, collaborating with such conductors as Lawrence Foster and John Hopkins, and has also performed in ensembles in The Royal Albert Hall, London, The Konzertgebauw, Netherlands, and The Sydney Opera House. Roberts maintains a strong interest in contemporary music, jazz and composition, and with the support of the Ian Potter Trust and the Michael Kieran Harvey Piano Scholarship, is currently writing works for solo piano, chamber ensemble, and also a book, 'a medical approach to advanced piano technique and injury prevention'. This season he has solo and chamber concerts in the UK, Spain, and Australia.
